How to do Natural Hairstyles

(braidouts, twistouts, afros and more…)

Natural hairstyles can be extremely versatile. You can make natural hair look many different ways just be using braids, twist, rollers, or even spritzing it with water. I enjoy wearing different hairstyles with my natural hair.

In order to grow my hair long I wore protective natural hairstyles about 85% of the time. Specifically during the week I usually wore my hair up and then wore some type of loose or “down” style on the weekend. Even now that I have reached my goal length I usually save my loose hairstyles for the weekend.

It is possible to achieve natural hair growth while wearing loose hair styles but I honestly think it would take the average women with a kinkier texture of hair longer to grow their hair to maximum length if the majority of the styles are loose. The only exception I can see to this is if the style worn is one that does not rub on your clothing or shoulders etc…

So I encourage you to have fun with your natural hair, wear it up, down and various ways…. most importantly find a hair care routine that works for you and stick with it. Hopefully some of these tips and tutorials can build up your natural hairstyling skills.

Why Dirty Hair Grows Faster

Why Dirty Hair Grows Faster

Over the years I have had many women approach me and share how their hair seems to grow faster when it is “dirty”.  They share stories of their grandmothers or moms  telling them about growing dandruff, and washing hair as little as possible.  Yet their hair seemed to flourish and grow under those conditions. Now […]

Balancing Act

Balancing Act

Last night my 2 (almost 3) year old daughter so articulately told me that she didn’t feel like we were spending as much time together having fun and playing. She actually told me she felt jealous.  My heart sank, but I immediately knew what she meant. Lately I’ve been so focused on well, just life […]
